Chapel Assistants
SERVE
Each Sunday Chapel Assistants help prepare for and attend Chapel services. We also serve as liturgists during worship. Through our service we are able to meet some of the world’s most renowned speakers and social justice leaders. We organize the annual “Unsung Heroes” program to honor staff and community leaders for their service.
LEAD
Each year we host a campus-wide ceremony to remember the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001. We co-sponsor Student Leadership Week with the Howard University Student Association (HUSA) and encourage student leaders to begin their terms in office by worshiping together to be commissioned to serve. We mentor our fellow peers and offer a strong example of leadership as service for the entire university community.
LEARN
Our semi-annual retreats provide opportunities to discuss the challenges of leadership and to explore our individual callings.
PROJECTS
Our annual Angel Tree Project has provided Christmas gifts to as many as 230 children from elementary schools that surround our campus. We have hosted a breakfast at a local church to serve homeless persons and to celebrate Dr. King’s legacy and holiday. Other projects have included food, coat and blanket drives, organization of the campus’ participation in area walkathons for diverse charities and other ecumenical activities to share with our friends in need throughout the surrounding community.
FELLOWSHIP
In addition to our weekly meetings, we plan skating and bowling parties, meals, movie events and other activities throughout the year to relax, pray, enjoy the company of each other and to have fun.
