A Helping Hand

Today the Alternative Spring Break volunteers split into four groups. Three of the four focused on education and spent the day working with students at two high schools and a middle school. The volunteers aided the students with class work and held discussions centered on the importance of education.  The fourth group focused on advocacy for non-violence. They spent the first half of their day revitalizing a Boys and Girls Club with a fresh coat of paint. The latter part of the day included conversations with young students about bullying. William Golston, a participant who worked on the advocacy team explains, "We talked to them about alternative ways to deal with their anger and ways to avoid bad situations." As the volunteers prepared to end their day's work, a number of students ran up to hug them saying "Thank you."
