Flint, MI

Environmental Injustice

This year seven students sued the state of Michigan for being denied access to literacy. In Detroit, Michigan, Michigan’s city with the highest percentage of Black or African-Americans, 47% of the adult population is functionally illiterate, and in Flint, MI over 1,645 days after the start of the water crisis, the city’s residents remain without access to clean water. Detroit and Flint take precedence in our commitment to service this spring break. This year, we will visit both Flint and Detroit, Michigan to combat the environmental injustice caused by the water crisis and illiteracy through community restoration and youth empowerment.
