Violence and Cultural Exploration
- Community Restoration
- Conflict Resolution
Lumberton, North Carolina is community that has been affected by two hurricanes, Matthew and Florence, in the last five years. In addition, Lumberton, North Carolina’s Crime Index is higher than 97% of U.S. Cities. With all of this, going to Lumberton for Alternative Spring Break is very important. We would like to interact with the youth and redirect their focus to more positive outlets while also educating them on the importance of higher education. We would also aid in the ongoing relief efforts to help expedite the rebuild process. Also, we would also interact and engage with the Lumbee tribe, the Native American tribe that inhabits the community.
In doing this, we hope to impact the youth and lower the crime rates to create a more conducive and friendly environment, helping those who are still in need from the aftermath of the Hurricane.
