Prayer from Rev. Bernard L. Richardson, Ph.D., Dean of the Chapel
Most Gracious and Loving God, before any human hands touched us you already knew us; you are closer to us than our own thoughts. You can feel our feelings; you know our hopes and you know our fears. In
times of uncertainty and trouble we can come to you for you are a healer, more than you are a judge.
In this time of uncertainty even while physically distancing ourselves from others, we pray that we will grow closer to one another and with you in spirit and with faith.
Protect us now; not only our bodies but also the thoughts and attitudes of our hearts. Remind us O God that you have a way of working things out for our good, even when we do not have a clue has to how you will do it.
We pray for our Howard University Community, strengthen us and guide us through this crisis. We pray
for all who are in leadership at this University, especially President Frederick. We pray for our students as they travel home and to other places of support and refuge. May this time of change and uncertainty make them even stronger and wiser.
We pray not only for ourselves but for all who are being impacted by this virus across the nation and throughout the global community. Fill us with enough compassion that will not allow us to be silent or complacent while so many are hurting, in the midst of so much that is wrong, and in the mist of matters
of life and death.
We are not going to tell you how to do it, we are just going to let go and trust you. Trust you that you will lead us and guide us and keep us safe in this day and the days ahead. Hold us now in your love until we
learn how to love.
