Biography
Rev. Dr. Frederick Douglass Haynes, III, is a prophetic pastor, passionate leader, social activist, eloquent orator, and educator engaged in preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ, and fighting against racial injustice. Dr. Haynes is also committed to and has devoted his life to economic justice and empowerment in underserved communities and touching and transforming the lives of the disenfranchised. For the past 40 years, Dr. Haynes has served as a visionary and innovative senior pastor of Friendship-West Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas. Under his servant leadership, the ministry and membership of the church has grown from less than 100 members in 1983 to over 13,000.
Possessing a commitment to education, he has a Bachelor’s Degree from Bishop College, a Masters of Divinity degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and a Doctor of Ministry from the Graduate Theological Foundation. Dr. Haynes has led Friendship-West to donate over a million dollars to Historically Black Colleges and Universities. In addition, Friendship-West has donated over two million dollars in scholarship aid to students who are members of the church and the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex.
As a reflection of his commitment to community transformation and social consciousness, Dr. Haynes serves in various leadership capacities in organizations that champion social change and education and are dedicated to the advancement of those in underserved and minority communities. He is the Trustee Chair of the Samuel Dewitt Proctor Conference; Board of Directors member of the National Action Network; and Board of Directors member of the Conference of National Black Churches. He demonstrates a commitment to intellectual excellence in both the church and academia and has been a Board Member of Paul Quinn College where he has also acted as an adjunct professor. For his life-long commitment to the fight for social justice, Dr. Haynes was inducted into the International Civil Rights Walk of Fame on January 22, 2016, in Atlanta, Georgia.
Annually, Dr. Haynes and FD Haynes Ministries presents “Speaking Truth to Power”. Speaking Truth to Power is a forum designed to create an open dialogue about social issues that plague the world we live in and seeks to advance social justice by educating and preparing congregations, organizations, and community members and leaders to work for social justice.
In 2021, a Dallas secondary school was named Dr. Frederick D. Haynes, III Global Preparatory Academy at Paul Quinn College, a Dallas ISD Transformation campus; this is the first of its kind to be housed on a Historically Black College and University (HBCU) campus, giving students the opportunity to experience college life from an early age. In July 2023, Rev. Jesse Jackson announced Dr. Haynes, III, as the new president and CEO of Rainbow PUSH Coalition.
Dr. Haynes is married to Debra Peek-Haynes, founder and president of Quorum Commercial, a Dallas commercial real estate firm. They are the parents of one beautiful daughter, Abeni Jewel Haynes, a social media and marketing professional.
