Poverty and Violence.

The city of Memphis, Tennessee is currently fighting two evils. Both crime and poverty plague the city. In Memphis, 85 out of 100 murders that occur are African American. 63 out of 100 of those murders are under the age of 29. Aside from immediate violence, Memphis also suffers with multi-dimensional poverty. Multidimensional poverty consists of low income households, lack of employment, limited education, lack of health insurance, and poor residential areas. With regard to this, Memphis is number 1 in the south, number 1 to the east of the mississippi river and number 5 in the US.

It is vital that we serve in this community right here and right now to ensure that the future is free from the chains of violence and poverty.
