Chapel Assistants
Mission
Founded in 1994 by Dean Bernard L. Richardson, the Chapel Assistants is a campus service organization made up of diverse students who share the determination to strengthen individual spiritual relationships and a collective dedication to serving God. The Chapel Assistants support and attend the weekly Chapel services held on Sundays, meet weekly for fun and fellowship, and conduct various community service projects. The Chapel Assistants who are the “heart of the Mecca” are dedicated individuals with a heart to serve and strive to grow the organization and strength the spiritual and religious campus community.
Meetings and Membership
Meetings take place every Friday at 5 p.m. in the lower lever of the Carnegie Building. Chapel Assistants membership is open to all students. Community Service Projects
Bison Holiday Give Back
Bison Holiday Give Back, formerly the Angel Tree Project is a service-learning project coordinated by the Howard University Chapel Assistants. The purpose is to serve hundreds of children, affectionately called “Bison Babies” across the Washington, DC area, by providing requested gifts during the holiday season. Backed By Bison
Backed By Bison Food Drive is an annual community service project coordinated by the Howard University Chapel Assistants during the spring semester. This service initiative focuses on providing supplementary food items to be distributed to D.C. food pantries and raising awareness about child food insecurity within the Washington D.C. area. Backed By Bison partners with student organizations to provide donations of specified supplementary food items. Once donations have been collected, our community partner then distributes the items to schools with food pantry programs. For more information, please email backedbybison@gmail.com
